ARTIST: Tania MachadoLeather & Stainless Steel Jewelry | Brazil
Tania’s life as an artisan began at age 19 when she worked crafting leather purses. Her success grew as her skills developed and her interests broadened to include silver and semi-precious stones. Tania continued her craft while living a quiet life on a small mountain farm. However, to ensure that her son received a solid education, Tania eventually returned to Rio de Janeiro.
Through extensive travels that included working with craftsmen in Holland, Belgium and Spain, Tania became even more skilled at working with leather and jewelry. Upon returning home, Tania began a line of jewelry that is uniquely hers, constantly creating new designs and styles to share with her customers. And despite the challenges facing her – and other Brazilian artisans – due to cheap imitation jewelry manufactured in Asia, Tania is focused on producing lovely, high quality pieces of wearable art.
