ARTISTS: Carla & Fernando Vaucher

The exceptional aluminum jewelry made by Carla and Fernando Vaucher is wonderful, but no more than the quality of these two people who create it.

Carla and Fernando work in their home in Jacaraipe, Brazil, producing incomparable designs for their high quality aluminum jewelry. They met in 1989 in Porto Alegre, Brazil. Because Fernando´s education was in clinical psychology and Carla´s was in special education, the couple was planning to establish a program to assist mentally disabled people with independent living. They both were experts in producing wonderful desserts, so the plan was to operate a catering business and employ those individuals they were trying to help.

For three years the couple did try to make their catering business a success, and did assist several mentally disabled individuals in the process. However, it became too difficult to financially support themselves and to locate the disabled clients they needed for their program.

In 1997, when they finally accepted the fact that their dreams were not feasible, Carla attended some jewelry making classes. She had no idea that these classes she was taking out of curiosity would ultimately change their lives.

After seeing his wife’s creations, Fernando also decided to study jewelry making with a local jeweler. Soon the couple stopped making desserts and devoted their attention to creating unique aluminum jewelry. Today, Beleza is proud to support the livelihood of this couple by offering their extraordinary jewelry designs.
